Each volunteer is required to pay a minimum fee for their placements. The minimum fee is €425 per placement for the first month. Any extra week is between €30 and €50 per volunteer depending on placement location.
Included in this fee are the following:
- Asssistance and allocation of placement
- Pick-up service from Douala airport, Cameroon
- Accommodation during placement.
- All accommodation facilities are equipped with kitchen, bedroom, private shower and/or toilet.
- 1 Excursion: please visit our ashia create your own experience. Here you will find the different excursions available to you depending on your placement.
- Welcome package
- Workshop including drinks and a meal. Please note: the workshop take place in the Netherlands only!
The rest such as; flight ticket, visa, vaccinations, malaria prophyaxis, clothes, extra excursions in Cameroon, transportation within Cameroon, daily food and drinks consumption, health and/or travel insurance and more, are not included in the ASHIA placement fee.
Please note for those who arrive in the evening, it is adviced to spend a night at a missionary house in Douala. The next day you will travel to your placement location. An additional charge of €50 will be added for all who arrive after 14:00 pm in Douala airport.
Once you have arrived at Douala airport, a representative of ASHIA will be there to pick you up. Please note that the airport is very busy and that it may take some time before you exit the airport. You will be given instructions on how to proceed once you have confirmed your placement with ASHIA.
Travelling in Cameroon can be quite time consuming, particularly when you are travelling by public transportation. Most buses do not depart unless all seats are occupied by passengers. This is usually the greatest cause of delays and long journeys in Cameroon. Depending on the placement, arrangements will be made to travel by private transportation. Once you have confirmed a placement, you will be given more instructions on this facility.
For all placements in Bamenda an extra €80 will be charged. This is due to the fact that Bamenda is situated further away than Bafoussam, Foumbot, Baigom or Foumban.
As a volunteer you can choose to pay for other local services that include cooking, excursions, renting of white coats or renting bicycles and more.
Below is a list of these optional costs per person:
Cooking: approximately €50 per week
Cleaning: approximately €20 two times a week
Excursions per event: between €30 and €50 depending on location
White coat rental: €10 per placement, with an extra €20 deposit fee (not available in Bamenda)
Bicycle: €75 per placement
All optional costs are to be paid in Cameroon to your contact person.
