ASHIA excursion

From 01 June 2008, ASHIA offers guided tours once every week.

Below you will find our scheduled excursions. You can choose once you arrive in Cameroon which excursion you want to take part in. Remember that you already have 1 'free' excursion included in your ASHIA costs. The excursions below only apply to volunteers taking part in a placement situated in either Bafoussam, Foumbot, Baigom or Foumban.

If you would like to take part in these excursions, you can make a reservation with your contact person in Cameroon. Please do this at least 1 week in advance.

Every 1st saturday of the month: Dormant volcanic lake, Baigom.

After a bike ride from Foumbot to Baigom of approximately 15 minutes, you will start your excursion just at the entrance of this dirt road. The volcanic lake is situated just behind the hills on this picture. Make sure you bring a bottle of water and a snack. The walk to the lake is a long one.

 

Once you have reached to top, this is the amazing view awaiting you. The water is not suitable for swimming!

 

 

 

Every 2nd Saturday of the month: Lake Monoun, Foumbot

A bike ride from Foumbot to the lake Monoun will take you approximately 20 minutes. Once you arrive at the lake, enjoy the scenery and take a picnic. This peaceful location has restricted access. In 1984, a dangerous gas emitted from the lake causing severe skin burns and destroying some plantations. Since then, the Cameroonian governement has taken measures to ensure safety around this area.

After you visit the lake, end your day at Foumbot guest house and enjouy a Cameroonian meal

 

 

 

Every 3rd Saturday of the month: Artisanat and palace, Foumban.

A bus ride from Foumbot to Foumban will take you approximately 45 minutes. Foumban is known as the most cultural city in Cameroon. Here you will see the palace which belongs to the Bamoun Sultan. For a fee, you can visit the palace. Pictures inside the palace are usually not permitted, so always ask before snapping.

 

Visit the cities lively artisanat. You can see all the sculptures hard at work. Test your negotiating skills there, because prices can tend to be very expensive for tourists.

 

 

Every 4th Saturday of the Month: Chefferies, Bafoussam
